Stake Conference Sept 6 & 7 2025

We are honored to welcome Elder Steven D. Shumway, who was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the April 2024 general conference.
Elder Shumway was born on June 30, 1970, in Springerville, Arizona, to Wilford Douglas and Dixie Ann Shumway, and was raised in nearby Eager, Arizona. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University in 1996. Following graduation, he worked for Exxon Chemical Company in Houston, Texas, from 1996 to 1998. Since 1998, he has served as president and CEO of Whiting Brothers Investment Companies, a business with over a century of history in the southwestern United States.
Elder Shumway's extensive Church service includes serving as a full-time missionary in the Pennsylvania Philadelphia Mission, elders quorum president, Young Men president, bishop, stake president, and president of the Illinois Chicago Mission from 2019 to 2022. At the time of his call as a General Authority Seventy, he was serving as a member of the Eleventh Quorum of the Seventy in the North America Southwest Area.
In the April 2025 general conference, Elder Shumway delivered a talk titled “Participate to Prepare for Christ’s Return”. He taught that when we say “yes” to serving in God’s work—through Church callings, ministering, temple worship, and following promptings—we prepare ourselves and others to meet the Savior. He invited listeners to see such opportunities not merely as duties, but as sacred avenues to discipleship, spiritual growth, and the most abundant life—“when we say yes to Christ, we are saying yes to the most abundant life possible.”
Elder Shumway has expressed how excited he is to join with the Saints in the Bountiful South Stake in this assignment.
Sis
ter Heidi Shumway:
Sister Heidi Dawn O’Brien Shumway married Elder Steven D. Shumway in the Salt Lake Temple on December 29, 1994. Together they are the parents of four children and make their home in Pinetop, Arizona.
In a Church News profile, Sister Shumway reflected on their first meeting at Brigham Young University, describing it as “definitely very spiritual,” and shared how a small but meaningful moment—arriving late to a religion class and finding the only open seat next to Steven—confirmed that they were on the right path together.
Later, during a period of uncertainty, she and her husband sought guidance in the Dallas Texas Temple and felt the clear prompting to “go forward in My way, not in your way.” Choosing to follow that direction, she testified, has blessed their lives.
